For over thirty years Alain Leprince has managed the vineyards and made the wine at Terrace Vale. During that time Terrace Vale has been awarded over 400 medals and trophies. Results which are a testament to Alain’s style of winemaking, not a formula, but a philosophy. Alain’s approach is based on the premise that each vintage will bring a new challenge, so he nurtures the fruit and adapts his methods to create the best wine utilizing traditional French winemaking techniques.
Alain joined Terrace Vale in 1973, two years after the first sod was turned on what was an old grazing paddock known as Rothbury Creek. Alain knew the rich fertile soils of the Hunter Valley would produce grapes the world would want, and so he set about expanding the Terrace Vale range and creating one of the first boutique wineries in the Hunter Valley. The winery was built in 1975 and a year later Alain produced the first Terrace Vale red wine. Since then all our wines have been hand made on site using only Hunter grapes.

The Terrace Vale Chardonnay vineyards are amongst the oldest in Australia, first planted over thirty years ago. The planting of Chardonnay proved to be a wise decision, with the Terrace Vale Chardonnay winning “Best Chardonnay” at the Hunter Valley Boutique Wine Show for three consecutive years. A lovely rich Hunter style with green/gold colour, complex aromas and great length of flavour. |

Hunter Valley Gewurtztraminer |

When the Terrace Vale vineyards were planted over thirty years ago there was much experimentation, hence a small parcel of Gewurztraminer was planted to “see how it would do”. After many trials Alain believes that the traditional French “dry” style best showcases the offering off this vineyard. Fresh, spicy bouquet with prominent lychee overtones. An abundance of fruit on the palate and a clean, crisp acid finish. |

The reputation of the Hunter Valley and Semillon are inextricably linked. The vines planted over thirty years ago offer a rich source of material for this iconic Hunter Valley wine. Lemons, limes and grapefruit characters create a basket of flavours that are reminiscent of a citrus orchard, a wine that we believe will be ideal to cellar. |
